Rachel is an outstanding supervisor. Her high expectations of herself and her team is balanced with a humility and non-judgemental attitude that makes her very approachable and encourages excellence within trainees. She shares her decision-making and thought-process regularly with the team using every patient as a learning opportunity for juniors. She is reflective and models this through asking for feedback from junior team – discussing complex cases and issues as equals and asking pertinent questions to develop self-reflection. She takes the time to have lunch and coffee with the team on ward rounds, taking an interest in individuals and is very supportive when difficulties arise. When teaching in clinic she encourages ownership of patients, skilfully blending educational opportunities by active participation, independent practice and modelling effective consultation skills. She goes out of her way to provide educational opportunities, taking the time to suggest projects for career development.
