Katherine Harris

Nominated for The Debbie Eadie Award for Advance Nurse Practice Award 2021

Works at Torbay & South Devon NHS Foundation Trust

Brilliant Trainee APNP, who works fantastically hard alongside the Tier 1 rota in Torbay. Katherine is progressing well through her training, but aside from this, she has thrown herself into a whole host of patient and staff projects, to try and develop and improve the care we deliver. She has been responsible for generating a number of patient and parent posters to help them cope with anxiety/stress, and has recently produced a poster signposting children, young people and their carers to a range of Mental Health support Apps and websites.

Katherine has also set up the “Colleague of the Month” process on Louisa Cary ward, to encourage staff to identify and acknowledge excellence in their peers. This has particularly been appreciated and used by the nursing and AHP staff.

Katherine is a genuine pleasure to work with. She is keen to gain knowledge, develop her clinical skills and become an effective practitioner. She is always smiling (despite the mask) and always gets enthusiastically stuck in with work.

Katherine demonstrates exemplary interaction with closer cohesion between, medical and nursing teams. She is a hard worker and is an exemplary team worker in running the service at its busiest times.

Katherine joined Torbays Child Health as a trainee advanced nurse practitioner. Katherine introduced colleague of the month on Louisa Cary Ward. This was such a lovely thing to bring to the ward, especially during a difficult time during the beginning of the pandemic. She shares the nominations each month and always treats the winner to a little sweet treat for their reward. Katherine really recognises the good work and efforts in others and shows such kindness to boost staff morale.
