Tanya Crago

Nominated for Nursing Role Model Award 2021

Works at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust

Tanya is an amazing nurse.
She leads the paediatric oncology team with a passion which cannot be matched. Her patients are her priority at all times and she always works hard to advocate for them. This has been a challenging year for the oncology team due to absences within the team but Tanya has endeavoured to keep everything together for her patients, even when this meant finding alternative places for them to have their treatment. For a while Tanya was the only person here for the team and she led through this with a professional manner.
Working with oncology patients has it’s own challenges and Tanya is not afraid to show how difficult this is at times, but she never lets this affect the care she gives, even at the hardest of times. The children love her and the families have confidence in her knowledge and clinical ability.
The oncology team has to work closely with the ward team to ensure good patient flow and best care. Tanya takes an active role in teaching new skills, maintaining clinical competence for the whole team and by doing so she helps to ensure the best possible care is delivered to her patients. She will always support the team if she is able, be this lunch cover or supporting complex chemotherapy. This makes the team feel valued and cared for which is of huge importance.
Tanya works within the senior nurse team for paediatrics and her knowledge and support is very valuable to her peers too. She is a good sounding board and is someone who will listen when things are not going so well and offer appropriate support both personally and clinically.
I feel confident in saying that Tanya is someone who any junior nurse can look up to and aspire to be like.
