The team who work on SSPAU are great, the work can be busy and very challenging at times. Through covid SSPAU has moved areas several times and each time has had its own challenges and positives but the team pull together and make it work, they use their iniatives to find answers to problems and provide the best possible care for their patients.

This team have had a lot of disruption over covid and have moved wards several times in order to free up ward bed capacity. The huge impact of these moves should not be underestimated, each time starting from scratch and getting used to a new environment. Throughout they have continuously and safely assessed and managed acutely unwell children despite the challenges. It can be stressful environment but everyone works so well and is so supportive of each other. I am proud to be part of this team.

It has been a truly difficult 2 years for SSPAU at Torbay. At the start of the pandemic they had to move down and set up a paediatric SSPAU alongside red ED in the day theatres- not an easily task. Since then they have had multiple moves and each time had to start from scratch and set up an environment both child friendly and with the ability to deliver safe care to children and their families.

Throughout all of this the team have remained positive and upbeat and embraced each new challenge with the utmost professionalism and created oppurtunities to overcome them.

They have supported each other both personally and professionally and demonstrated exceptional internal teamworking to allow them to overcome these hurdles.
Throughout all of this the care of children and their families has been paramount and they have worked so hard to ensure the service has not been too disrupted.
