Charlotte is the heart of our SCBU — an inspiring ENP and educator whose warmth, teamwork, and dedication lift everyone around her. She works hand in hand with doctors, midwives, and nurses, always ready to help clinically when the unit is short or busy. Her passion for education shines through in the brilliant teaching sessions she organises for both nurses and doctors, bringing our team together and improving the care we give to every baby and family. Her kindness, hard work and quiet strength make her truly exceptional.
Nicola Carr

I would like to nominate Nicola Carr, Advanced Nurse Practitioner, for the Peninsula PAFTA Awards. Nicola is an exceptional member of the medical rota, demonstrating outstanding clinical expertise, leadership, and compassion in all aspects of her work.
What stands out most about Nicola is her exceptional team leadership. She has an innate ability to allocate staff appropriately, ensuring that the unit runs smoothly and efficiently, even during the busiest shifts. Her calm, kind, and approachable nature fosters a positive working environment where everyone feels supported and valued.
Nicola’s teaching skills are remarkable. She consistently goes above and beyond to share her knowledge and experience, supporting the professional development of her colleagues and junior staff. She is a true role model within our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit—an inspiration to all who work with her.
During emergencies, Nicola demonstrates incredible composure and confidence. Her organisational skills and decisive leadership during neonatal resuscitations are exemplary. She communicates clearly, gives precise instructions, and ensures that both patients and colleagues are protected and respected at all times.
Beyond her clinical and leadership excellence, Nicola also makes meaningful contributions to various staff welfare initiatives within the department and across the hospital. Her dedication, professionalism, and empathy embody the very best of nursing practice.

Alice Giltrow

Alice is the perfect bridge between nursing and medical teams. She always advocates for the patient and their family and goes out of her way to ensure that developmental care and ficare approaches are utilised. Her communication with parents is always clear and compassionate, explaining things in jargon free way. She offers practical and emotional support to her nursing colleagues, and shares her knowledge with those around her.
Katherine Green
Works at Torbay & South Devon
Katherine is one of the paediatric advanced nurse practitioners in Torbay. She is such an asset to the team and brings her sunshine and light to every situation.
She is a great team player and is supportive to all she works with and recognises when people are struggling.
She is also a great educator of both the nursing and medical teams and takes every opportunity to share learning and best practice.
She is competent and safe in her work and always makes well reasoned management plans for the children she cares for. She strives to include and meet psychosocial needs and is especially good with our young people and those with eating disorders.
Katherine works with the managing eating team and has developed lots of resources for the acute team to help with managing these patients.

Alistair Hill

The most knowledgeable nurse I have ever encountered, Alistair is always sharing his knowledge with those around him. He is able to make the complexities of neonatal nursing understandable by even those new to the speciality. As an ANNP Alistair bridges the divide between nursing and medical staff working seamlessly across both disciplines. Alistair is the embodiment of a Nursing Role Model: conscientious, kind, empathetic, knowledgeable and skilful.
Vicki LeHuray

Vicki is a brilliant ACP, who keeps the SSPAU show on the road with competence, efficiency and kindness. She is supportive of the rest of the team and even makes the effort to offer support to the ward when there are challenging cases. She is fun and approachable, listens to people and brings a sense of humour to the working day!
Vicki is an advanced practitioner at Torbay, she is so dedicated to the role of Advanced practice and is an excellent support to her colleagues. This year she has demonstrated great leadership skills and supports, advocates for her colleagues including the other Advanced practitioners. She is involved in so many projects I can’t remember them all but she is leading the kidzmed project which has helped so many children in Torbay successfully take their medications, she is heavily involved with the trusts advanced practice group ensuring that any difficulties around advanced practice trust wide are dealt with, she has just started her own allergy clinics, she has been involved in improving the patient pathway from the emergency department to paediatics, she had helped review and revise polices and guidelines and has provided clinical supervision to her colleagues. Her work has helped to bridge the gap between nursing and medical teams. Her communication skills with parents and families is excellent and returning patients will often ask for her as they know she is professional and will advocate for them and provide the best care. I am so glad that I have Vicki to work beside and she would make an amazing lead Advanced Practitioner because she already is one.
Becky Martyn

Becky is an exceptional Advanced Nurse Practitioner whose dedication, skill and compassion make her a standout in paediatric care. She works primarily as an ACP but also regularly contributes in the Paediatric Emergency Department, where she is recognised and respected throughout the team. Families and children feel reassured thank to her advocacy skills for their needs.
Becky fosters strong relationships between medical and nursing teams, encouraging collaboration and sharing her knowledge. Her guidance and professionalism help create an environment where everyone feels valued and supported.

Kim Pauling

In my opinion, Kim is the embodiment of how advanced nurse practitioners can enrich the departments they work within.
Over the years I’ve worked with her, her role has expanded considerably. She now works on the middle grade rota on CAU and supports the endocrine team in caring for children with congenital hypothyroidism. She is also proactive in delivering education and improvement and is a force for positive change in Plymouth paediatrics, liaising with senior nursing and the consultant body.
She has not only taken this expanded and challenging workload in her stride, but driven a lot of the change herself. She sees her own value and the value of her ANP colleagues, and I’m so glad that she does as their combined knowledge and expertise is such an asset.
Clinically, Kim is highly competent and manages patient care and departmental flow within CAU with calm efficiency. She has a natural, reassuring manner with children and their families, inspiring trust and confidence in everyone she encounters. She brings teams together, bridging medical and nursing perspectives, and consistently models the principles of compassion, integrity, teamwork and patient-centred care.
Keeley Smith

Keeley is an outstanding advanced nurse practitioner working in Torbay. She has been qualified now almost 4 years and I have seen her knowledge, competence and clinical acumen grow greatly in that time. She excels in managing the critically unwell child and runs SSPAU like a well oiled machine, ensuring all staff are supported as well as making everyone laugh.
She has a keen interest in neurodiversity and is doing lots of work to raise awareness for both the staff and patients. She intuitively knows when a child or parent has neurodiversity and adapts the environment, her communication styles and management plans to cater to these needs.

Sarah Tabrett

I am honoured to nominate Sarah Tabrett, SeniorANNP, for this award. Sarah’s practice consistently demonstrates expertise, precision and the highest standards of care. Her assessments and decision-making is exemplary. She brings a wealth of experience that elevates the safety and quality of care on every shift.
Sarah exemplifies true multidisciplinary teamwork. She works effortlessly across medical and nursing boundaries, encouraging respectful communication, mutual learning and shared responsibility. Her presence brings a calm, unifying influence that helps teams perform at their very best. Sarah’s approach strengthens cohesion across the entire neonatal and maternity service, ensuring a seamless experience for both colleagues and families.
Her interaction with babies and families is characterised by compassion. Sarah has an exceptional ability to support families through moments of vulnerability, offering explanations that are both honest and reassuring. Parents describe her as someone who made them feel safe, informed and genuinely cared for.

As a senior ANNP, she plays a vital role in developing staff, mentoring colleagues with insight and unwavering professionalism. Her contributions to education, from simulation teaching to advanced clinical training continue to shape the whole workforce within our local service. She is a vital part of the Peninsula Step Up To Reg programme, sharing her wealth of experience in the wider region.
For 3 decades, Sarah has dedicated herself to neonatal care with expertise and heart. Her leadership, her standards, and her compassion make her an outstanding practitioner and a deeply deserving nominee for this award.
Amy Titchin
Works at Royal Cornwall Hospitals
Amy is our very own home-grown APNP who has just completed her first year post-qualification. We are very lucky to have her! She consistently emanates a positive, calm attitude that is reassuring to patients, families and colleagues. She demonstrates sound reasoning in her autonomous practice but will bring any challenges or concerns to the attention of senior colleagues without hesitation. She is a reliable, organised and good-natured nurse whose skills have proved incredibly beneficial to acute paediatrics.
Despite catapulting into the realms of the medics, she has never lost touch with the nursing team and exemplifies that ‘bridging of the gap’ in providing continuity, education and cohesion. She is unafraid to challenge others to achieve the right outcomes for her patients. Amy also strives to embody the four pillars of advanced practice in providing leadership amongst the team, giving junior doctor teaching and organising APNP study days. I am always reassured when I see she is on PAU and look forward to our shifts together. Thank you Amy for all that you do.
Elliot Tuckinson

Elliot has evolved as a superb Advanced nurse practitioner. He is so brilliant at his job. When he is on shift it’s like a cool breeze in very hot day. He is methodical, knowledgeable, excellent with children and their parents and the best part is – always has this calm approach. Absolutely an asset for our department. He deserves this award and no reason why he should not be getting this. Role model for our department and I wish we have many more advanced nurse practitioners like him. A huge thanks to him for doing his job so well and always aspiring to do everything to a highest standards.

Throughout his training, Elliott has consistently demonstrated exceptional excellence in his role as an ANP, delivering highly skilled, safe, and compassionate care to infants, children, and young people. His depth of clinical knowledge, advanced assessment skills, and calm, decisive approach have earned him the trust and admiration of colleagues across level 12.

Elliott is always compassionate, polite and friendly towards children and their families when he examines and performs clinical tasks on patients. He explains processes well and adjusts his communication style with children based on age appropriately and is able to build a really good rapport with them. Elliott is also a fantastic teacher towards nursing students and qualified nurses and goes above and beyond to help their confidence grow and learn new skills. He has excellent communication skills between the nursing and medical team and is always proactive and efficient in his works. Elliott is brilliant and a joy to work with!
Elliott has only recently fully qualified as an APNP but he is a massive asset to our department- in particular our paediatric assessment unit -and always a pleasure to work alongside. He has a real “can-do” attitude, and is highly competent, whilst genuinely modest and unshowy. Over the course of his training he showed the ability to be reflective and thoughtful- knowing when to utilise his quick thinking, such as when leading the care around critically unwell children. He has a professional curiosity that is commendable and he is able to see additional projects (such as our nurse led discharge pilot) through, with some strong emerging leadership qualities.
I am delighted to nominate Elliott, whose journey I have watched from student nurse to now a fully qualified APNP has been exceptional. He consistently demonstrates excellence in fulfilling the responsibilities of an Advanced Paediatric Nurse Practitioner. His clinical knowledge, sound judgement, and commitment to delivering high-quality care are evident in every shift, and he approaches each challenge with professionalism and confidence.
