Children’s Hospice South West

The hospice team have been incredible in supporting a challenging patient and their family at the end of their life. They accepted the referral for a patient with complex cardiac problems. This was a different type of patient to those they typically see.
The team showed exceptional care and compassion and spent time forging bonds not only with the patient and their carer but also with extended family.
The Little Harbour team worked hard to actively communication with the acute medical teams and the community teams to get up to date relevant information to deliver the best care.
The patient became more unwell sooner than we expected and the team went above and beyond to develop a short notice out of hours rota should the child quickly become end of life. This was needed within a week and the patient and family experienced what i believe to be the best death that was possible in the circumstances. Personal care and attention was given to all the tiny details and I know the family were so grateful. As was I.
