Asha Petherick

Nominated for Nursing Role Model of the Year Award

Works at Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust – EASTERN

There are not enough words to describe how wonderful Asha is and how lucky we are to have her as part of the Bramble team. To start with Asha is the nurse I would aspire to be. She is a breath of fresh air and and you always know the shift is going to be ok when she is on (and gives the best hugs!). She treats every patient and their families as if they are her only patient regardless of how busy she is. She acts as an advocate at all times and demonstrates the highest standard of nursing to patients of all ages. Nothing is ever too much trouble for Asha and everyone who has the pleasure to meet her loves her warm and bubbly personality. Asha takes on every opportunity for learning which is availble and always seeks to improve her practice to provide the highest level of care to her patients. Asha will often be known to stay late to support her patients or the rest of the nursing team or take on additional work to relieve stress of her colleagues. Asha manages to make her colleagues days better by remembering everyones names and includes them in decision making and listening to opinions denominating working well within the multidisciplinary team. A problem shared with Asha automatically feels like a problem halved, and she also knows how to have a laugh and bring fun and enthusiasm to the ward and we are so so so lucky to have her!

Asha – Wow what a couple of years she has had, since becoming qualified. No longer a junior nurse, and definitely a valved member of the Bramble team. Asha has a personality that lights up any room, with an even bigger smile. Asha is a fantastic nurse; she manages to form unique bonds with the children and families she cares for. Her compassion for nursing is obvious to see, in the way she advocates for her patients, has individualised patient care at the forefront of her decision making and nursing care and how she ensures that everyone is made to feel like they are the only person in the world that matters. Asha even though has only been qualified just over two years, you’d never know, she is a wealth of knowledge, and ensures that she pushes herself to do courses to advance her own progression and skills, she is a great peer teacher for students and the newly qualified nurses on Bramble, but she does need to believe in herself more – as she is amazing. Asha has a great working relationship with MDT, and everyone knows Asha, no matter where you go within the paediatric teams as she always ensures that people are introduced, included and is so welcoming.

Asha thrives in patient care. She always advocates for her patient ensuring their voice is heard and makes them feel the most comfortable during a challenging time. Asha works great within a team, she will always support her colleagues to make sure everything is up to date and everyone’s day goes smoothly. She signs up to as many courses as possible to keep her training up to date and to make her the best nurse she can be. She always comes in smiling with a positive attitude which always brightens up everyone’s day and work wouldn’t be the same without her.

Asha is a fantastic children’s nurse, she has such a natural and genuine kindness, compassion and empathy. She has gone the extra mile to help and calm some of our ward patients with extreme psychological distress, has been brave and a key member of the team in some difficult situations. Generally just a lovely person to have on shift and performs her nursing duties to a high standard. Keep it up Asha.

Asha is always a joy to work with. She has such a lovely manner with patients and families, and always goes the extra mile for her patients. She is always keen to support the team and has always made me feel welcome as a junior doctor. She supports team wellbeing for example helping to organise socials.
