Rachel Penney

Nominated for Nursing Role Model of the Year Award

Works at Other (please specify in nomination)

Rachel has a true passion for her work with children and young people struggling with eating disorders within Cornwall Partnership Foundation Trust. For years she has supported colleagues in the acute hospital setting with advice, training, and reviews of our young people admitted due to the physical risks eating disorders present, and never fails to be a smiling, friendly, knowledgeable, open, and comforting presence. She advocates for patients and staff to ensure the best outcomes possible are the result.

In the last year she played a key role in developing a new service to try to help children and young people with eating disorders to recover at home and avoid hospital and specialist unit admissions. As part of this, and alongside other senior colleagues, she has taken on a whole team of people new to the service and trained and supported them , providing formal training as well as impromptu training and support as situations arise that require it. The whole team know that when she is around they and their patients are in safe hands and no question will be considered silly or be brushed off.
