Francesca Aplin

Nominated for Nursing Role Model of the Year Award

Works at Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust – EASTERN

Cheska is an inspirational Bramble paediatric sister, she is also a fantastic leader within her band 6 role for her support group. Nothing is ever too much trouble for Cheska, she is always a visual on the ward when in charge and ensures that the team are supported. She has an open-door policy where she listens and offers support, advice and ensures she follows up with checking in with people. Cheska is a really approachable person, with a calming nature, who has patient centred care at the forefront of her decision-making skills, as well as showing great compassion for her wider team. She fills me with confidence when she is in charge and also when she has a patient case load on the ward and is not in charge, she really come into her own with the patient care, demonstrating why she is a band 6 sister, she really leads by example. Cheska not only advocates for other members of staff but advocates for patients and families. She is a wealth of knowledge ensuring patient safety, nursing staff well-being and is an awesome role model. You can she that Cheska is passionate about her nursing position, and she demonstrates this with her can-do attitude, peer teaching, patient care, compassionate views on improving the ward, and ensuring we all work as team – supporting each other, as well as working collaboratively to ensure the best possible care and ward environment for our patients. Cheska has been a massive support in my own growth and development within Bramble, and I feel she doesn’t realise the impact she has on the team as whole. You know, no matter what the shift brings, you’re in safe hands if Cheska is part of the team.

Francesca is one of our band 6 nurses on Bramble Ward. She is an advocate for all of her staff, and is extremely supportive to everyone in the team. She is also an advocate for her patients and their families. She is all round amazing band 6, who leads well and manages the shift exceptionally. Is it always reassuring to know that she is in charge, as she handles difficult decisions well and remains calm throughout. Thank you for always being supportive of your colleagues!

Cheska you are a fab band 6 within bramble ward. Knowing you are on shift and in charge is very reassuring. You are always happy to help out and support the team as well as educate us, even when completing the jobs of a band 6. Always attending the doctors hand over to hand anything over to the nursing team that has been discussed. Always making sure that all staff get breaks and that we are okay with our workload. Cheska you are amazing at what you do. The care and compassion you have within the job is wonderful. Keep doing what you are doing.

Cheska is a truly incredible sister on bramble , nothing is ever too much for her to do, help or assist with. Not only does she provide faultless support to us all , she ensures the shift is well managed , fair , safe and runs as smoothly as possible.

Cheska is always present on a shift asking if we need help or assistance , this is massively appreciated ! Especially areas such as PAU , which are away from the main ward so could easily get forgotten on busy shifts.

I know I for one will always come into a shift more relaxed or more likely to pick up an extra shift if Cheska is in charge.

Cheska is a super sister and deserves more recognition for this.

Thanks Cheska for all your hard work , team bramble appreciate you!
