Nominated for Nursing Role Model of the Year Award
Works at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust
Laura has always been a valued member of the ward Team , as a junior Sister she was a very good clinical nurse, the role of Ward Manager became vacant and Laura applied for this secondment and was successful, Laura ploughed full steam ahead with this, there was a lot to learn and to deal with but she succeeded with the role , different protocols and loads of new stuff to get to grips with, she never ever seemed phased with any of it ,but despite learning the new ropes on the administrative side of things, she also had a bit of an unstable work force ,there was a few staff including my self that had a few personal problems, Laura supported each and everyone of us which in turn enabled us to continue to work, she never made us feel bad about how things where with us , she always made sure we where supported without making an issue of things, this takes a lot of skill to be able to recognise what is required to make staff feel valued without discrimination, her support is very much valued, her empathetic manner is very much appreciated , we are very grateful for her kindness and support despite her own heavy work load, Laura can also always step into her clinical role as well when ever help is needed and support her ward, she deserves recognition for her achievements in this role.
Laura is now our ward manager, a role which enables her to ensure that her staff have access to their educational needs. She is very inclusive , makes sure that we all are able to discuss issues, and helps resolve any problems that we may have. She has an open door policy which enables us to work through things so we don’t stress over them.
