Louise Chalis

Nominated for Nursing Role Model of the Year Award

Works at Torbay & South Devon NHS Foundation Trust

Lou goes above and beyond to provide exemplary care for her complex and sometimes challenging patients and families. Her brilliant communication with the wider team allows for her patients care to be cohesive and as seamless as can be. She always provides the acute team with updates or advice about patients under her team which we appreciate very much.

Louise is a rock for me. She has high standards of care, seeking quality in all that she does. She is compassionate, caring and kind to patients and staff alike. Louise is holistic in her approach, considering emotional, physical and psychological wellbeing.
She is proactive, leads by example. She inspires, leads and backs up quality improvement and high standards of care.
She is an amazing personal support to me and always offers to support, works as a team and takes responsibility for her and her team’s work.

Louise is the team leader of the Specialist Nursing Team, however she wears a lot different hats is also the neonatal, respiratory and cardiac Nurse. Even though she has a few job roles she always puts her patients first and goes above and beyond. Families know if they call or text Louise with a problem she will sort it out, if she can’t she will find the person who will.

The team have had a lot of changes over the last few years including a splitting of the team that included Community Nurses. Louise has held the team up when things were hard and fully supported each and everyone professional and personally. She has a door is always open policy and with that is caring, compassionate, kind and fair. Louise encourages professional development and supports everyone in trying to enhance their own knowledge.
Louise is an excellent Nurse and role model she is a credit to the profession.
