Nominated for Non clinical staff of the Year Award
Works at Torbay & South Devon NHS Foundation Trust
I have nominated Gill every year since I have become a consultant. I literally don’t know where to start describing how amazing Gill is. Not only as a medical secretary, she is SO brilliant, organised, and efficient that she makes life for me and all the consultants she is secretary to infinitely better. She is incredible with talking to families, who call often with queries, as she is so knowledgeable about neurodiversity and the systems and support in the community, and is able to signpost families to this.On a daily basis, Gill will have distressed parents contacting her, struggling with managing their children’s behaviour or upset due to lack of support, or long waiting lists, and she has to manage their expectations and explain the situation. On top of this she has been unbelievably supportive to me while I was off on sick leave for a long time. She had to hold the fort, and her job must have been so hard, but she only ever expressed concern for my well being. Throughout this she maintains her brilliant sense of humour and always has a chirpy ‘hello, how are you?’ every morning. She is emotionally supportive to all of our team, both admin and medical. And on top of this she is a brilliantly supportive mum to her two girls. I would absolutely love for Gill to win this award. I know she has worked for Child Health for many years and the NHS for even longer, she is without a doubt an unsung hero of the health service, without whom, our jobs just would not be possible. She is such an asset to our organisation and I would love for this to be recognised. Overall I would like to say an enormous Thank you to Gill, for just being the bees knees.
Gill is a fantastic secretary. She is supportive, helpful and always able to provide advice and support when I need it. She is a lovely person to work with, and nothing is too much trouble for her. I feel very lucky to have such a helpful, reliable, kind and lovely secretary.
I am so grateful for Gill. She is a fantastic secretary: skilled administrator, knowledgeable, proactive, efficient. She is a kind and amazingly supportive person. She fields so many questions and queries from other professionals and families, making my work life so much easier.
Gill uses her life skills and knowledge to reassure and impart confidence in families. She is BRILLIANT!
Gill is extremely supportive to the nursing teams she works with, coping with an extreme workload and always having a smile on her face. She is knowledgeable, patient and can never do enough for anyone whether that is families or staff.
I am sure that nominating Gill for this award may not fully represent the sterling work that she does through the days and weeks of the year. Sharing the correct amount of information (no more, no less in emails or paper slips) for managing patient queries, supporting clinic follow-up planning by reminding patients that we may have been concerned about are some of the qualities that naturally comes to her.
From taking and returning calls from worried families & offering empathy and reassurance, keeping up-to-date with various channels of clinical and administrative information for different clinicians is nothing more than complex and that to do always with a smile on the face is even harder.
Gill is not only a perfectionist in her own domain but she also goes above and beyond to support her colleagues. Her organisational abilities, clear, friendly and professional communication skills, initiative and drive with her positivity and natural intuition supports, empowers and encourages us all.
