Caroline Thorpe Ward

Nominated for Team of the Year Award

Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust – NORTHERN

It is a honour to work on Caroline Thorpe ward. The staff are extremely supportive of each other and we are a family together.

The team on Caroline Thorpe are exceptionally kind, caring and supportive.
It’s always a comfort that as team, we are able to pull together to support one another in order to provide best possible care to patients, their families and carers. This is especially of comfort when the ward is busy and facing huge demands from the team.
Within the team internally, we are good at utilising and sharing one another’s specialist skills and knowledge, which helps to deliver the exceptional care that we provide.
The team also work well within the MDT, pulling in advice and support from those more specialist in order to help advocate for patients and provide best possible care.
As a team, it really feels like we help to make a big difference to patients and their parents/carers, and help to make their experience of Caroline Thorpe Ward a positive experience. It feels like we look after eachother as a team too.

The ward has been through many changes in the last year with new members of staff and a new leadership team. Throughout all of this the team has come together and worked extremely hard to deliver high quality care for our patients and their families. The team have been working hard to improve issues related to EPIC so that all aspects of patient care are looked after especially with regards to the admission process and the use of care plans. The team have had some very difficult situations over the past year both on an emotional and nursing acuity level such as long term patients with disordered eating and more recently with an uptake in the number of HDU patients. The whole team has pulled together to manage these situations and provide support to each other be that through 1 on 1 supervision or more broadly at staff meetings. Caroline Thorpe is a truly amazing ward to be a part of and to work on.
