Nominated for Team of the Year Award
Torbay & South Devon NHS Foundation Trust
The team work with all staff across the Trust and support them in their consideration of safeguarding and support duties. This can be to give advice and guidance, safeguarding supervision or to give direct support with children / young people / families where there has been an identified support need.
All of the Nurses and Administrators within the Team are welcoming of contacts from all staff and will adapt and flex their approach and timing to fit with staff / patient need. Staff will contact for lots of different reasons, sometimes for their own personal situations, and the team always respond with care and compassion.
Where there is the potential for multiagency / multidisciplinary support the team will work inclusively to respond to the child and family’s support needs and recognise the value that all professionals bring to the situation. Where there is a need to do so, the team will take a lead to enable a cohesive and coordinated approach, making sure that the priority of the care of the child can be maintained without detriment to the wellbeing and safety of the staff members.
The team receive and value many contacts from staff thanking them for their support, particularly for their compassionate and kind consideration in the support that they have provided. We recognise how complex safeguarding work can be and that it is not always an easy task to undertake but the Team are consistently and reliably available to support when needed. The Children’s safeguarding team shows immense support to others such as ourselves in the specialist nursing team. No matter if they are overworked, they always find time to talk through cases or difficult safeguarding situations with us, giving us constructive advice. They also provide us with bi-monthly safeguarding supervision. Their approachability and confidence in their skills makes us proud to work alongside them.
