Neonatal Unit

Nominated for Team of the Year Award

Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust

The best team – truly we are a neonatal family!! Absolutely every member of the team works incredibly hard, working together to advocate for the patients and families within our care. The passion for providing the highest quality neonatal care is palpable across each member of the the multi-disciplinary team. Even in the busiest of times, the teamwork to ensure optimal patient care is provided is paramount with the MDT supporting one another through each step of the way.

The Neonatal Unit is an incredible place to learn. There are endless learning and development opportunities, with weekly face to face teaching sessions, simulations, weekly online Thursday-teaching, specialist group led sessions and tea-trolley teaching sessions which we are all welcome to provide, among many more, with everyone’s viewpoints and opinions listening to and considered equally. No question is a silly question and I feel so valued as a member of the nursing team.

Being supportive, caring, compassionate and awesome!

I was fortunate enough to have had a student nursing placement at RCHT neonatal unit before being offered my staff nurse post. I can honestly say this was the best placement I had across my whole training, with the most welcoming team and greatest support and opportunities offered to me, which made me fall in love with neonatal nursing! We work so closely with a huge number of multi-disciplines each who were welcoming to me, opening up my knowledge on neonatal care. The endless support has continued throughout my time working within the team and I feel so lucky to work with the most amazing group of people.

Team functions well across all members of the MDT. The teaching is regular and well structured, including sims that allow us to practice working together and to practice situations that do not occur everyday in clinical practice.

The environment is generally very supported and this allows the team to function well when very busy and with particularly sick babies including those that have a long wait for the transport team to arrive
