Lucy Marsland

Nominated for Nursing Role Model of the Year Award

Works at Torbay & South Devon NHS Foundation Trust

This nurse has really inspired me, she is very knowledgeable and always takes time to educate myself and other healthcare staff. She’s very kind and understanding with children and parents. She’s very good at managing the nursing team when asked to coordinate. Amazing under intense pressures and respects everyone around her in the multidisciplinary team. We are very honoured to have her as a nurse on Louisa Cary ward.

Lucy is an absolute inspiration to all nurses. She has been qualified 2 years but her knowledge and expertise in the role is incredible. She frequently works in HDU with the sickest children, and is often nurse in charge. Even in the busiest shifts Lucy will take time to make sure all the staff are coping with workload, and providing support. I frequently go to Lucy for advice, and she takes the time to go through it and make sure I understand. She is always so compassionate and approachable to staff and provides amazing care and builds strong rapports with patients. She is able to manage the most challenging patients. Lucy is an absolute credit to the Louisa Cary team. She is a role model to all levels of nurses from students to band 6.

Lucy is unbelievably capable. As a quiet Newley qualified nurse she was taking charge of the ward and taking it all in her stride. Her calm, smiley approach is inspiring to others. She is always keen to learn and improve the ward where possible. She is a huge support to all staff and enjoys teaching and supporting others! Her communication skills are excellent with patients and staff and she is a constant advocate for her patients. Her leadership skills are inspiring, but at the same time she is a team player and no job is ever to big or to small. Thanks for all your hard work. Lucy is unbelievably capable.
