Play Specialist at Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust – EASTERN

Mimi has recently started working as a play specialist at Heavitree Day Case Unit with the paediatric patients. She has made such a difference to our patients and their parents. Mimi explains everything really plainly and simply and then distracts them well when they’re having their cannula. The children and parents visibly relax and find the process of day surgery much easier. As the children are more compliant with clinical procedures, the staff have found Mimi an enormous help to the work load.

Mimi has recently joined the team at Heavitree day case as our play specialist, setting up a new service. She’s made such a positive impact on the children and their families by helping to reduce their anxiety, organising the provision of toys and advocating for the importance of play and distraction for surgical paeds patients amongst adult trained colleagues.
