Dr David Bartle

Nominated for Educational Supervisor of the Year

Works at Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust – EASTERN

Dr Bartle has been an excellent ES during my first year of training. At the beginning of training, I felt quite anxious as I had a lot less experience than the other ST1s I was working with and struggled with the initial learning curve of starting neonates. Dr Bartle was approachable and I was able to discuss these concerns with him. He provided reassurance, helped me set realistic goals for my first year as a trainee and made sure to give me feedback and check in on a regular basis.

After being involved in an unsuccessful resuscitation which I found difficult to cope with, Dr Bartle was really supportive in both providing the opportunity to debrief on multiple occasions and in the weeks and even months following in checked in on how I was. I know he didn’t just do this for me but also other team members involved and I know has supported other colleagues through debriefing difficult experiences.

Dr Bartle has helped find educational opportunities for me and other trainees to such as guideline writing. He is also very actively involved in junior teaching particularly through simulation.

As a clinician he provides exemplary care for patients, works well with the whole team and provides excellent clinical leadership
