Nominated for Consultant Hero Award
Works at Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust – NORTHERN
So supportive in his safeguarding role but also well beyond this. Is thorough and clinically very good(but always keen to learn). Encourages and helps develop trainees in North Devon!
Chris is an excellent clinician and is well loved by families and staff. He is a fantastic asset to the hospital and is particularly supportive of junior colleagues making every question into an opportunity for learning. He is open and honest and shares his thought process and the rationale behind his decisions with colleagues which allows everyone to work together but also is an amazing training opportunity for juniors to see how their seniors come to the decisions they do.
In his role as lead for safeguarding and child death Chris is aware and involved of lots of the most difficult cases on the ward. He is so supportive of the whole MDT even reaching out to other teams (notably ED and primary care) to offer support and education following serious cases. He is aware when colleagues have had difficult shifts and asks after them. His empathy is very palpable and he is fantastic at making the team feel supported and cared for.
Chris is very self aware and this is notable in his communication with families. He offers reassurance but also a realistic impression of the limitations of what we do and don’t know. He fosters a trust between the team and families which leads to strong teamwork.
Dr Poh is an outstanding consultant who goes above and beyond for his patients. He takes time to explain and listens to families’ concerns with true empathy. He catches every detail and follows each area up when appropriate.
As a mentor, he is an inspiration to trainees. He supports trainees and encourages them to step out and build confidence, whilst also teaching at every opportunity. And not just to paediatric trainees, but FY2s and GPs. I am so relieved when Dr Poh is the consultant on-call.Chris is very deserving of this award.
