Dr Christine McMillan

Nominated for Consultant Hero Award

Works at Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust – EASTERN

Dr McMillan is a fantastic consultant to work with. She is an amazing consultant to work with on paediatric on calls and the assessment unit and provides great leadership, is approachable for discussing patients and provides clear, detailed but also pragmatic management plans for her patients. In her work with eating disorder patients she manages some difficult legal, ethical and social situations with kindness and compassion for patients always at the centre.

Dr McMillan is very supportive of junior team members. She prioritises wellbeing, ensuring breaks are taken and is always approachable. She takes an interest in trainees and their career progression and is keen to support in any way she can. She is keen to teach both through simulation sessions and on ward rounds or PAU.

Dr McMillan has a lovely patient manner, she is calm ad compassionate. She is an excellent leader with acutely unwell patients.

She is the kind of consultant I would aspire to be one day and am grateful for everything I have learnt from her so far.

Christine is an excellent role model and a consultant that I admire. She demonstrates fantastic work ethic and always finds a way in which is best to support our young people on the ward. At times our patients can remain on the ward for a longer period of time, she will always ensure she has checked in on them and finds ways to make their stays a little easier and to help to progress with discharge. Christine is always happy to answer any questions and demonstrates best practice to all others who she works with. Christine spends time getting to know each and everyone whether you be a visitor to a patient, a colleague or a patient. These relationships are an essential part of her work, and it proves to pay off.
