Nominated for Consultant Hero Award
Works at Torbay & South Devon NHS Foundation Trust
Alex is the newest member of our consultant team but my goodness she is smashing it. She is extremely knowledgeable and competent and I always know the shift will be safe and well run when she is in charge. She has taken on the enormous task of medically leading the eating disorder service and is ensuring the young people and families under her care are empowered and supported.
She is an extremely supportive leader and always takes time to check all members of the team are ok. I would always go to Alex with any worry or concern and know she’ll lend an sympathetic ear with the right amount of humour to make me feel better.
Alex is the perfect role model for the whole team and is truly a superwoman.Wow, Alex has hit the ground running!
She has only been in the consultant role for a few months but in that time she has not only managed to get up to speed as a fully functioning consultant, but has also casually overhauled the Eating Disorder service, bringing fresh ideas and innovation, and has taken on full responsibility for this particularly emotionally and clinically challenging group of patients. She manages the patients and their families firmly but compassionately, and bends over backwards to support both the young people on the wards and the staff looking after them.
If this weren’t enough she has also helped lead on the introduction of regular MDT simulation; is frequently found delivering eating disorder training to medical and nursing teams, and has already taken on supervision of trainees.
Alex is an inspiration, persistently cheerful, passionate in her advocacy for her patients and always packing some fresh coffee! Simply put, she ticks all the boxes, is a huge asset to the department and is a fabulous colleague.Alex has been a new consultant in Torbay this year. In this short time she has taken the Eating Disorder team from strength to strength! She has been exceptionally diligent to ensure that we are providing the best evidence based care we can. At the same time she has put a massive amount of time into staff teaching and supporting staff with challenging patients. She has a friendly, firm but fair approach with patients which teenagers respond well to and takes the time to really get to know the patient and their family. She is a huge advocate to children and young people and really hears their voice. In addition to this, she empowers others to progress and skill up in their role, to improve our department and we are very grateful for all her hard work!!
