“The role of the play specialists is essential on the ward. They offer a bit of normality during patient’s hospital journey and for this reason alone patients and their families are forever grateful! They bring a smile to the face of the children they care for which makes a huge difference to their overall hospital stay. We couldn’t do without them on the ward.

They have continued to offer and provided a play service through tough times, adapting their own skills and resources to ensure children and young people have the best experience they can. Various trainings have been attended to gain as much knowledge as possible to support their toolbox of skills, including Guided Imagery and Youth Mental Health First Aider. They also continue to work towards and campaign for an expansion tot he service and resources to better be able to support all children and young people who come into the RD&E.”
