“Gemma is a fantastic band 6. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic she made it known that her mobile would be on 24/7 and if we got a really poorly patient that needed ventilating she would come in at any time and support us if we needed.
Gemma also put together a COVID folder with all the policies and guidelines we needed for certain things, she then ensure we had training on things such as inline suction.
Gemma has also been responsible for organising and leading the respiratory study day for all nurses to attend so they feel prepared for what could be a very busy winter.
Gemma advocated for us more junior nurses to receive 6 supernumerary shifts following completion of our HDU course so we didn’t feel like we were being chucked in at the deep end. I feel this shift have been super helpful in my knowledge and confidence.
Gemma is always supportive of the staff, she will check if you are ok after a rubbish shift, offer training opportunities where possible.
When one of our HCA’s was being redeployed to outpatients when she didn’t want to, Gemma was the only band 6 that attended a HR meeting and support that member of staff. She has done all of this whilst trying to improve her own career by successfully completing the neonatal course
Gemma is very knowledgeable and caring with her families and patients. Gemma is forever improving the ward to ensure staff deliver the best care and that patients welfare is always put first.
She has been a fantastic team member at supporting the junior nurses to be prepared for HDU. She is a valuable member of the team and holds the ward together. She is kind, caring and extremely knowledgeable. A true role model! She is always approachable and takes extra care to ensure her patients get the best care.”
